YouTube Ads are rapidly becoming one of the best forms of advertising, why? Because no matter what industry you are in or what information you are looking for, there is a video that has been created to help you.

This leads us nicely on to why you may want to consider YouTube Ads in your marketing plan.

In this blog, we are going to dive in deep on what each YouTube ad is and how it can be used, stay with us as by the end and you will know everything there is to know about delivering a valuable YouTube Ad.

  • Different YouTube Ads
  • Skippable in-stream ad (TrueView Ad)

Skippable ads play before or during a video and are delivered in the form of a video. As the name states the biggest differentiator to this Ad type is the ability to skip, viewers can choose to skip them after the first 5 seconds. This is good for the advertiser because you only pay if the viewer continues to watch after 30 seconds, so if you are paying you know that the viewer is engaged or if they click on the ad whatever comes first.

Non-skippable in-stream ads

In a recent study, it was found that 76% of people are more likely to skip ads and because of this, some advertisers will choose this non-skippable option and yes it does do what it says on the tin! This type of ad is the annoying one that you are unable to skip until 15 seconds. This type of YouTube ad is good for brand awareness and if the content you have created is strong enough to hold engagement for 15 seconds and longer.
With this Ad you pay whether the viewer is engaged or not, you PCM which means you pay after every 1000 views! Which on YouTube will happen fast as they have over 2 billion logged-in users.

YouTube Discovery ads

YouTube is owned by Google, so it comes as no surprise when you see a discovery ad, it looks more like a Google search Ad. This ad is displayed alongside the organic search result, so if your video looks more relevant than the one that is searched the viewer can choose to watch your ad instead.
Discovery ads are designed with three lines of text and a thumbnail. When interested people click on the ad, they’re sent through to your YouTube channel to watch the video. Similar to TrueView Ads these are skippable and will only capture viewers that are interested in your content.

Non-video ads

This one is by far the most cost-effective and is suitable for those without a big budget for a video or of course the time or confidence to create one.

This ad is “displayed” on the sidebar and includes an image & text combined with a website link. You can also have a display ad that shows up at the top or bottom of a video, also known as an in-video overlay ad. This is also used for YouTubers or vloggers to monitories their YouTube Account.
